What is PRINCE2®?

PRINCE2® is a general method for project management that defines roles and responsibilities in project work. The method focuses on managing projects, including product-based planning, quality control, use of business case, and proactive risk management.

PRINCE stands for "Projects IN Controlled Environments".

Overview of PRINCE2® Project Management

PRINCE2® defines a project as "... a temporary organisation that is set up to deliver one or more business products according to an agreed business case".

The emphasis on the business case is significant, as there should be a clear and concrete reason to spend money on a project, and without sufficient justification, it is difficult to succeed with the project.

PRINCE2® includes seven processes that define the management activities used to control the project. All processes must be used in a PRINCE2® project. Even in a very small project, no process should be omitted as each has a specific function. However, not all projects should be managed in the same way.
